What I loved about this book was how much of it is reflective – lots of flashbacks and momentary recollections that round out the characters and give the reader lots of context and history about the setting and the family and how they think about life.

I began wondering if this story would be a good read-aloud for today’s elementary-aged children even with their younger siblings. I loved the book at least as much as my daughter did, and I think my wife felt the same way. Other books in the series.
